The correlation between territory, heritage and territorial development, in general, is little examined. More common are distinct approaches that focus on one or another of these theoretical categories individually, requiring advances in a multidimensional and interdisciplinary perspective. The purpose of this text is to establish the main correlations between territory, heritage, and development, with a focus on the territorial planning process, highlighting dysfunctions and possible advances. In addition to mentioning its correlations, we focus on the main dysfunctions, moving forward, with the presentation of new perspectives, for example, a bioregional approach and the possibility of assuming territorial heritage as a reference in planning with a view to territorial development. It results from a review of the bibliography available in virtual repositories, from Brazilian universities and national and international scientific journals.
Keywords: territory; territorial heritage; territorial approach; bioregional approach; territorial development.
