After the expansion of access to primary education in Brazil, performance and efficiency metrics in the public education sector have been questioned due to persistent inequalities. Considering the demands for efficiency and effectiveness, as well as the influence of contextual factors, this study analyzed the efficiency of municipal schools in the State of Paraíba based on IDEB results. The methodology of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was applied in its standard, inverted, and composite forms, along with a regression model. Only 6.85% of the schools were considered efficient under the standard DEA; in the composite DEA, no school achieved efficiency. The truncated regression model indicated that the age-grade distortion rate is an explanatory factor for efficiency. The findings reveal that, even with different conditions and inputs, schools have not proportionally converted available resources and contextual elements into educational performance.
