Obstetric violence as a violation of women’s human rights

Obstetric violence is a complex problem that impacts women around the world during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, characterized by inadequate and disrespectful practices on the part of health professionals, such as unnecessary invasive procedures and discrimination. This issue is relevant as it violates women's human rights and can cause serious physical, emotional and psychological harm to both women and their babies. It is essential to investigate the causes, consequences and prevention methods of obstetric violence to ensure a safe and dignified motherhood experience. This study addresses obstetric violence as a violation of women's human rights in the context of childbirth, in light of international and national regulations, and has the specific objectives of analyzing its various forms, the consequences for mothers and babies, the relevant legislation and strategies existing prevention and combat systems, using a deductive approach.
