Abstract

This article brings as a starting point the concept of war throughout history and its evolution from a legitimate option for dispute resolution to its complete illegality regardless of the reasons. Through bibliographical research in books and articles, as well as journalistic articles, it brings the current scenario posed as a challenge to the international community due to the most recent conflict on European soil involving Russia and Ukraine. With peaceful means of resolving disputes far on the horizon, Russian forces continue to pursue their goals with the so-called Special Military Operation and the Ukrainians resist and seek to expel the enemy from their territory with the help of the West. However, what can be seen is the suffering of the population and disrespect for human rights, linked to the fear of escalation in the conflict, which will be resolved with real efforts and collective action by the countries to affirm the principles and rules of international law.
