The purpose of this article is to history the events that marked and defined the trajectory of the Graduate Program in Regional and Urban Development (PPDRU). In order to carry out this purpose, we used the information made available by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), as well as the internal documents of the aforementioned Program that give an account, among other things, of the objectives that, since its inception, he intended to achieve in terms of the training of its graduates and their role in academic terms at the state and national levels. Among the findings that were arrived at in this investigative enterprise, the most important, certainly, was the fact that this Program manifests, at all times, something that is not very common to find in institutions and bureaucracies, in general, which is the effective existence of a common sense to all. This is because, without a shadow of a doubt, it is a Postgraduate Program (PPG) that makes a movement throughout our curricular structure, in every action of research development and insertion in the community that mobilizes science in concrete support. and directly to society.
