The study analyzes the degree of agricultural modernization in the states of Acre and Rondônia, located in Southwestern Amazonia, using the Agricultural Modernization Index (IMA). Applying a quantitative, exploratory, and explanatory approach, with an applied nature, where 20 indicators extracted from the 2017 Agricultural Census were used for the factor analysis procedure. The results highlighted the existence of significant territorial disparities among the municipalities, with low levels of modernization prevailing in recently colonized regions and limited infrastructure. The historical conditions of colonization, public investments, and regional development policies were predominant in directly influencing performance. The need for public policies that expand access to technology, credit, and rural infrastructure stands out, aiming to reduce socio-spatial inequalities and strengthen a more equitable and efficient agrarian model, especially in areas with a lower degree of modernization, promoting their development and more efficient production processes.
