Abstract

While freedom of expression guarantees and protects the way of thinking, speaking and demonstrating without censorship, “politically correct” emerges as a way to protect discriminated and isolated minorities from society. In this vein, this article aims to understand the limits of freedom of expression, analyze the role occupied by the “politically correct” in Brazilian society, identify the result of this conflict, as well as demonstrate the importance of the right to freedom of expression. In other words, this article aims to analyze how Brazilian society has been positioning itself regarding the clash between freedom of expression and the “politically correct”. For this, the method of approach was deductive, through bibliographic research based on doctrine, scientific articles and relevant legislation. Finally, some contemporary authors and researchers understand “politically correct” as another name given to education. There are authors who understand “politically correct” as a form of control, which tries to contain freedom of expression until it fixes on the individual an idea different from that which he has at that moment. It was found that the disproportionality in relation to what is disliked is such that it is necessary for the individual to reach unanimity in society, exterminating and oppressing those who think differently.
