Reverse logistics and e-waste disposal in Goiânia

Abstract

This article aims to identify whether there is an adequate treatment for electronic waste in Goiânia, Goiás. The main theory of the article was based on Ulrich Beck's Risk Society theory, in order to understand the relationship between society and environment, with environmental risk and ecological deterioration being consequences of the production and consumption model of modern society, with consumer electronics at the top of this chain. To achieve the objective aim, a survey was conducted with agencies and institutions that provide services related to the environment, such as: The Municipal Environment Agency which is responsible for this disposal; The Municipal Landfill, collection site for all waste produced in Goiânia; and a private company, which also collects these wastes in the municipality. As a result, it could be said that the Municipal Environment Agency has not yet managed to implement a policy that organizes and guarantees an adequate waste destination; in the Landfill, this disposal is not allowed, because it is considered dangerous. However, visiting the landfill, it was found e-wast discarded in small quantities over there.
