This research aims to analyze how management and transaction capabilities are related to the development of innovation in small businesses participating in the IF Mais Empreendedor project, developed at the Instituto Federal da Paraíba, Guarabira campus. Thus, data from eight small businesses monitored by the project were analyzed. The capabilities were measured using the model developed by Vasconcelos, Santos, and Andrade (2021), while innovation performance was measured by the innovation radar proposed by Sawhney, Wolcott, and Arroniz (2006). Data were obtained secondary through the project and relationships were analyzed using Spearman's correlation. The results indicate that managerial capability is related to the development of innovations related to supply, customer experience, supply chain, and network, highlighting the role of relationships with employees in the development of these innovations. Commercial capability, on the other hand, is related to innovations in customer experience, supply chain, and brand, highlighting the role of financial results in promoting innovation.
Key words: innovation; entrepreneurship; dynamic capabilities.
